Position Summary

The Engineering Directorate is offering a detail opportunity to serve as the Acting Deputy Division Director, Division of Engineering Education & Centers (EEC) in the Directorate for Engineering (ENG).  This detail is open to all qualified NSF employees and IPAs currently working at NSF for an initial period of up to 120 days, with the possibility to extend for up to one year, in 120-day increments. For purposes of pay and benefits, the selectee will continue to encumber the position from which detailed.  The individual selected will be required to file an “Executive Branch Personnel Public Financial Disclosure Report” (SF-278) in accordance with the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 at the beginning and completion of the detail assignment.  The expected start date for this detail will be on or about  April 3, 2023.

Position Description

The Acting Deputy Division Director will serve as the principal advisor to the Division Director and participate fully with the Division Director in the overall management of EEC. Responsibilities include: assistance in developing overall goals and objectives and in the planning and direction of division activities; participation in divisional budget preparation and justification; provision of broad scientific and engineering guidance across the division's disciplinary domain; representation of division programs and interests to senior officials in government, academia, industry and other sectors; coordination of division's scientific and engineering activities within NSF and with other agencies and organizations; assistance to the Division Director on both a policy and a scientific level on issues, initiatives, and other matters pertaining to the division.

Professional and Technical Qualifications: Education strongly preferred at the Ph.D. level or a combination of education and equivalent experience in engineering, the physical sciences, or other closely related field or subdiscipline. Professional experience may include research, professional practice, teaching and/or management experience in the context of these fields/disciplines.
