Dr. Andrew W. Tricker
AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow
Division of Chemical, Bioengineering, environmental and Transport Systems
Directorate for Engineering

Class of 2023-2024

Dr. Andrew W. Tricker is a chemical engineer, focusing on sustainable chemicals and industrial processes. He earned his Ph.D. and B.Sc. from the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, GA). His thesis work focused on sustainable applications of mechanocatalysis, with projects encompassing biomass valorization, ammonia synthesis, and plastics depolymerization. For postdoctoral research, Tricker worked at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley, CA), with a focus on the design and diagnostics of electrochemical devices for energy conversion and hydrogen production.

Outside of research, Tricker has a strong interest in promoting science engagement and education. As a graduate student, he was a student leader of the Georgia Tech Chapter of TAPPI (Technical Association of the Pulp & Paper Industry), which worked to educate student and the general public on the roles renewable biomass can play in creating sustainable products. During his postdoc, Tricker volunteered as a faculty member at Mount Tamalpais College within San Quinten State Prison, providing instruction in math and science courses to inmates.

As a AAAS S&TPF at NSF, Andrew will work to help identify promising basic research that will aid in achieving net-zero industrial processes. Andrew’s future ambitions are to become a university faculty member and continue researching novel and sustainable chemical processes.
