On Tuesday, March 10, 2009, almost six months after the beginning of the Fiscal Year, the Senate approved the $410 billion omnibus appropriations bill for FY 2009, sending it to the president for his signature. The Senate approved the bill on a voice vote after voting 62–35 to cut off debate. The House passed the bill February 25, 2009, by a vote of 245–178, with eight not voting.
The U.S. National Science Foundation received a total of $6.49 billion for FY 2009.
