Position Summary

The Division of Environmental Biology (DEB) is offering a detail opportunity to serve as the Acting Deputy Division Director in the Division of Environmental Biology (DEB). This detail is open to all qualified NSF employees and will not exceed one year in 120-day increments. For purposes of pay and benefits, the selectee will continue to encumber the position from which detailed. The individual selected will be required to file an “Executive Branch Personnel Public Financial Disclosure Report” (OGE-278) in accordance with the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 at the beginning and completion of the detail assignment. The expected start date for this detail will be on or about August 11, 2024.
 

Position Description

The incumbent will serve as the Acting Deputy Division Director in the Division of Environmental Biology (DEB), Directorate for Biological Sciences. DEB supports fundamental research on populations, species, communities, and ecosystems. Scientific emphases range across many evolutionary and ecological patterns and processes at all spatial and temporal scales. The Acting Deputy Division Director will participate with the Division Director in providing leadership and direction to the DEB. They will assist the Division Director in carrying out Division-wide responsibilities such as strategic planning and management, human capital management, budget preparation for submission to congress, and overseeing the evaluation of proposals and recommendations for awards and declinations. The Acting Deputy Division Director will also represent NSF to relevant external groups and foster partnerships with other Divisions, Directorates, Federal agencies, scientific organizations and the academic community.

Professional and Technical Qualifications: Education strongly preferred at the Ph.D. level or equivalent professional experience, or a combination of education and equivalent experience in environmental biological sciences or a closely related discipline. Professional experience may include research, professional practice, teaching and/or management experience in the context of these fields/disciplines.
