Position Summary

The Directorate for Biological Sciences is offering a detail opportunity to serve as the Acting Division Director, Division of Molecular and Cellular Biosciences (MCB). This detail is open to all qualified NSF employees and is not expected to exceed 120 days. For purposes of pay and benefits, the selectee will continue to encumber the position from which detailed. The individual selected will be required to file an “Executive Branch Personnel Public Financial Disclosure Report” (OGE-278) in accordance with the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 at the beginning and completion of the detail assignment.

Position Description

The Acting Division Director will provide overall vision and leadership, working jointly with the Deputy Division Director in oversight of all activities of the Division of MCB. This includes providing guidance to program officers, administrative and support personnel, recruitment of scientific staff, assessing needs and trends, developing breakthrough opportunities, implementing overall strategic planning, and policy setting. The Acting Division Director will supervise professional staff within the Division. The Acting Division Director will determine funding requirements, prepare and justify budget estimates, balance program needs, allocate resources, and oversee the evaluation of proposals and recommendations for awards and declinations. The Acting Division Director will represent NSF to relevant external groups and foster partnerships with other Divisions, Directorates, Federal agencies, scientific organizations and the academic community.

Ph.D. or equivalent professional experience, or a combination of education and equivalent experience in biological sciences or a closely related discipline.
