Position Summary

The Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE) Directorate is offering a detail opportunity to serve as the acting deputy assistant director (DAD) for the Office of the Assistant Director (OAD). This detail is open to all qualified NSF employees currently working at NSF in 120 day increments and will not exceed 240 days.  For purposes of pay and benefits, the selectee will continue to encumber the position from which they are detailed.  The individual selected may be required to file an “Executive Branch Personnel Public Financial Disclosure Report” (SF-278) in accordance with the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 at the beginning and completion of the detail assignment.  The expected start date for this detail will be on or about August 1, 2022. 

 

 

Position Description

The acting deputy assistant director will serve as a member of the SBE leadership team and as the primary assistant to the assistant director in providing leadership and direction to the SBE directorate, which includes four major components. The Division of Social and Economic Sciences, the Division of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences and the SBE Office of Multidisciplinary Activities support disciplinary and multidisciplinary research and education activities. The National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics is the nation's principal producer of statistics on the education, employment, funding, and activities of scientists and engineers in all sectors of the U.S. economy as well as internationally. These organizations provide the basic structure for SBE activities. 

The SBE directorate supports research on human behavior and social organizations and how social, economic, political, cultural and environmental forces affect the lives of people. The acting deputy assistant director’s focus is on management of the internal affairs of the directorate, the integration and coordination of directorate-wide initiatives, and providing leadership in the area of human capital management, including performance planning and evaluation, conflict management, recruitment, and professional development of directorate staff. The acting deputy assistant director participates fully in all phases of planning, implementation, representational and policy-related activities involving the directorate. In addition, and assists with interagency coordination of the directorate’s research activities and facilities. 

Professional and Technical Qualifications: Ph.D. strongly preferred or a combination of equivalent education and experience in the social, behavioral and economic sciences (e.g., sociology, psychology, economics, political science, anthropology, geography, management sciences, or related fields). Professional experience may include research, professional practice, teaching and management experience in the context of these disciplines.
