About the series
The National Organization for Blacks In Government is now accepting applications for the 2023 STEM and Oratorical Competitions. Applicants can complete at the local, region, and national levels during the next 5 months.
The official STEM Theme is: The Water Crisis in America, How do we Repair it? and the Oratorical Theme is: Are Voting Rights Essential for the 21st Century American? Why or Why Not? These competitions challenge the creative minds of high school students in grades 9-12.
The NSF BIG Chapter 2023 competitions will be held virtually via Zoom on Saturday, May 6, 2023. The STEM competition will encourage and help prepare high school students to pursue a college education in STEM. Our STEM competition also provides academic and social support to participants, so they have the competencies to become successful STEM enthusiasts. The Oratorical Program will provide youth training in communication skills and public speaking experience. No prior technical experience is necessary to participate in the competition. However, students must work with a subject matter expert (SME) as a mentor. A mentor can be either someone from the school or an individual the BIG NSF Chapter refers.
The NSF BIG Chapter will hold a resource meeting on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM (EST). This virtual Zoom information meeting will allow students to ask questions and obtain additional information on the competitions. We encourage all students and their parents to attend the resource planning meeting. Meeting participants must complete their registration before March 10th. Participants will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the resource meeting.
