Theme: Advancing STEM Education and Workforce Opportunities in the Delta and Surrounding Regions: Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana
Day 1: Wednesday, November 13, 9:00 am to 5:10 pm (CST) Opening Session: 9:00 am – 9:30 am
Session 1: Understanding NSF Funding for Education and Workforce Development Across the Delta and Surrounding Region
9:30 am – 10:45 am
This session will begin with a presentation from the US Department of Education who will provide an overview of the region. NSF staff will provide a summary of EDU funding across Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
Following a moderated Q&A session, there will be a discussion among EDU Advisory Committee members.
Break: 10:45 am – 11:00 am
Session 2: Leveraging Partnerships to Advance STEM Innovation and Workforce Goals 11:00 am – 12:00 pm & 1:00 pm – 1:35 pm
During this session, we will hear presentations from Partnership Leaders in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas as they discuss their approaches to leveraging partnerships and workforce development efforts to advance STEM initiatives and benefit the local economy. Following a moderated Q&A session, there will be a discussion among EDU Advisory Committee members. (Note the break in this session for lunch).
Lunch: noon – 1:00 pm
Please note that lunch will not be provided to AC meeting attendees, nor will there be food available for purchase at the Davison Athletic Complex (DAC). There will be a free shuttle available to take attendees to and from LA Tech’s food court.
Session 3: Student Voices from the Delta and Surrounding Region 1:35 pm – 2:50 pm
This session will begin with a panel discussion from several STEM students from across Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi. Following a moderated Q&A session, there will be a discussion among EDU Advisory Committee members.
Break: 2:50 pm – 3:10 pm
Session 4: EDU Funded Principal Investigators across the Delta and Surrounding Region 3:10 pm – 4:50 pm
In this session, we will hear from EDU funded Principal Investigators from the Delta and surrounding region to talk with us about their NSF-funded STEM education efforts. Following a moderated Q&A session, there will be a discussion among EDU Advisory Committee members.
Day 1 Closing Session: 4:50 pm – 5:10 pm
Day 2: Thursday, November 14, 2024, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm (CST)
Opening: 9:00 am – 9:15 am
During the opening, the chair and AD will welcome everyone back. We will also hear from the CEOSE liaison.
Session 5: COV Division of Equity for Excellence in STEM Committee of Visitors Report 9:15 am – 10:00 am
Break: 10:00 am – 10:15 am
Session 6: STEM Education and Workforce Development in the Delta and Surrounding Regions: A look toward the future
10:15 am – 11:40 am
During this session, in a moderated discussion, EDU’s Advisory Committee will have the opportunity to synthesize information they learned throughout the various sessions as we look toward the future of STEM education and workforce development in the United States. During this discussion, the Advisory Committee will provide insight and guidance to EDU and NSF around ways in which the agency can advance STEM education and workforce development in EPSCoR jurisdictions, including Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana.
Preparation for Meeting with NSF’s Chief Science Officer
11:40 am – 12:10 pm
EDU Advisory Committee members will collaborate as they identify questions and summarize recommendations to provide to NSF’s Chief Science Officer.
Lunch and Break: 12:10 pm – 1:15 pm

Meet with NSF’s Chief Science Officer: 1:15 pm – 1:45 pm

Note: Following the closing session, NSF program officers will host a listening session for attendees of the AC meeting. Additional details will be sent to individuals who register to attend the AC meeting in person.
