The ADVANCE Institutional Transformation (IT) program provides funding for universities and colleges to address cultural and organizational barriers to the participation and advancement of women in STEM academic careers. IT proposals are five-year, comprehensive, institution-wide projects. The requested budget must reflect the proposed scope and impact of the project. The webinar will include an introduction to the ADVANCE IT program, how to prepare IT letters of intent, and IT proposals.
IT letters of intent due: August 4, 2009
IT proposals due: November 12, 2009
ADVANCE does not support projects targeting students and does not provide direct support to individual faculty for their science and engineering research and education programs.
The ADVANCE solicitation 09-504 (www.nsf.gov/advance) well as the NSF Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (http://www.nsf.gov/publications/pub_summ.jsp?ods_key=papp) must be reviewed for complete proposal preparation rules and guidelines.
Program Eligibility: IT proposals may be submitted by academic institutions of higher education that award degrees in a field supported by NSF. All types of universities and colleges are encouraged to submit proposals including minority-serving institutions, women's colleges, community colleges, and predominantly undergraduate institutions.
Webinar Registration Information: Each IT webinar will have the same content so please register for only one webinar.
Registration for the online workshop is now available at https://nsf-training.webex.com/. To register select the "UPCOMING" tab and select "ADVANCE IT Proposal Preparation Webinar." Select the "Registration" button and enter the registration password "advance." Enter your information and hit the "Register" button. You will receive additional instructions via email from messenger@webex.com once the registration is confirmed; please save this email since it will have the link to join the session on the date you selected.
Please register as soon as possible since there are a limited number of slots available.
Who should participate: Individuals interested in learning more about the ADVANCE IT program and those who will be involved in putting together an IT proposal. Only one member of your proposal preparation team should register for the event and the team should meet together in one room with a computer and phone line for the session.
The team will benefit most from the seminar if the ADVANCE solicitation 09-504 is reviewed before the session and questions are prepared about potential projects. Abstracts of recent awards can be found at www.nsf.gov/advance (link at bottom of page).
Note that the ADVANCE program:
· Is not a scholarship/fellowship program.
· Does not support activities to increase the number of undergraduate or graduate students going into science and engineering degree programs.
· Does not provide direct support to individual faculty, postdocs, or students for their science and engineering research and education programs. The NSF research directorates offer support for research activities through their grant programs.
· Does support all fields funded by NSF including the social and behavioral sciences; however, the clinical sciences (medical, dental, veterinarian, allied health, etc.) are not eligible.
