Planning Grant: Security and Software Engineering Research Center (S2ERC) Showcase

About the series

This is a planning meeting to discuss the feasibility of starting a new center in Security and Software Engineering Research Center (S2ERC). Companies interested in this topic are welcome to help guide the center in its research objectives and in providing suggests with respect to governance of the center.  Center management will welcome suggestions and guidance in setting research directions.

Message from the center:

Hello to all Friends of the S2ERC,

As you may know by now, the National Science Foundation has funded our proposal to establish the Security and Software Engineering Research Center (S2ERC), effective February 1, 2010.  The NSF-funded sites include Ball State and Iowa State, with a planning grant going to the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Purdue, West Florida and Penn State also plan to participate in the Center.  At this point, we anticipate having 19 affiliates in the new S2ERC by May 2010.

It's time to register for the Spring 2010 S²ERC Showcase to be held at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Indiana on May 5th and 6th, 2010. You can register for the Showcase at http://www.serc.net.

We have reserved luxury rooms at the 15th best resort in the nation (2009 Reader's Choice Awards, Condé Nast Traveler Magazine), the West Baden Springs Hotel and the French Lick Springs Hotel in French Lick, Indiana. Please see the website http://www.frenchlick.com/ to view the two hotels and use the website or call 1888.936.9360 to book your room! You can stay at the West Baden for $159/night (regularly $259/night) or the French Lick Springs Hotel for $99/night (regularly $169-$184/night).  You must reserve your rooms before April 1st to get these deep discounted prices!  Use our group code 0510SER.

If you plan to fly to the May 2010 Showcase, it will be better to fly into Louisville instead of Indianapolis, since Louisville is closer to the two resort hotels in the French Lick area.

Please become a fan of the "Security and Software Engineering Research Center (S²ERC)" page on Facebook.  If you do not have a Facebook account, see the Facebook tab on the S2ERC website leading to "Keeping in touch with S2ERC using Facebook". In this article we provide easy steps to set up your account.  You might use Facebook to place a request on the S2ERC page if you want to find someone to share a room for the Showcase or share a ride from the airport.

Here is the general outline of the S2ERC Showcase:

Tuesday, May 4, 7-9 p.m. reception at the French Lick Resort Hotel, celebrating the opening of the new center.

Wed and Thurs, May 5-6, at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) -Crane, IN.  The agenda will follow most of our previous showcase agenda templates, with the addition of a few sessions that NSF requires for a first IAB Meeting for a new Center.  Wednesday is a full day followed by a banquet dinner at the NSWC.  Thursday will be approximately a half-day session.  Bus transportation will be provided each day from the hotels to/from the NSWC.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
