About the series
NSF’s Division of Science Resources Statistics (SRS) has as its prime objective the development of factual and analytical information on science and technology resources and is the principal source within the Federal Government for statistics in these areas. As part of this mandate, SRS conducts surveys and special studies of the nation’s Science and Engineering (S&E) personnel, specifically the education, employment and careers of individuals either with S&E training or employed in S&E occupations. Five SRS surveys collect information on persons with bachelor degrees or higher: Survey of Graduate Students and Postdoctorates in Science and Engineering (GSS), Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED), National Survey of Recent College Graduates (NSRCG), National Survey of College Graduates (NSCG), and Survey of Doctorate Recipients (SDR). The latter 3 surveys are combined to create the SESTAT data system. The SRS S&E human resource data are available for use by researchers for a variety of studies.
This workshop will bring together users and potential users of SRS workforce data to share ideas. Specifically, the goals of the workshop are threefold:- Exchange information among users concerning creative uses of the SRS data and research outcomes.
- Broaden the base of SRS data users by familiarizing potential users with the data that are available, ways in which the data are currently being used, and possible additional or expanded uses.
- Provide feedback to SRS regarding the data and possible ways to enhance both the data and its use.
