HEGS Program invites supplemental funding requests to support undergraduate and graduate students
Two dear colleague letters express the interest of the Human-Environment and Geographical Sciences (HEGS) program in receiving requests for supplemental funding to support undergraduate and graduate students. The purpose of these supplements is to provide students with opportunities to gain meaningful research experience as collaborators on funded projects.
PIs and co-PIs on current HEGS awards are eligible to request Research Experience for Graduates (REG) or Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) supplements to support students at their home institutions or at other institutions.
- Invites requests of up to $7,000 per student to support their participation in the activities of the funded award.
- Students should be students at Minority Serving Institutions or community colleges and do not need to be enrolled at the PI or co-PI’s institution.
- Submissions are requested by April 14, 2023, but may be submitted at other times with prior approval of a HEGS program officer.

- Invites requests of up to $6,000 per student.
- May support participation in the activities of the funded award or independent research by the student under the mentorship of the PI or co-PI.
- Students do not need to be enrolled at the PI or co-PI’s institution.
- Submissions are requested by March 23, 2023, but may be submitted at other times with prior approval of a HEGS program officer.
