SBE supports early-career scientists with postdoctoral fellowship awards (2023-2024)

The U.S. National Science Foundation's (NSF) Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE) has granted postdoctoral fellowships to 45 early-career researchers as part of Fiscal Years (FY) 2023 and 2024 Sciences Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (SPRF) program. The SPRF program is critical for NSF’s priority to Create Opportunities Everywhere (COE), inspiring, attracting, supporting, and advancing people underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

"This cohort of postdoctoral researchers represents the future of the SBE sciences, and SPRF will provide access to meaningful resources, information, connections, opportunities, and experiences,” said Evan Heit Ph.D., SBE Acting Deputy Assistant Director.

These fellowships will fund research across various topics, including adolescent risk-taking behavior, successful strategies for forest restoration, the archaeology of the antebellum South, and language processing in multilingual speakers.

“We are confident that our investment in these early career scientists will advance the United States’ standing in the scientific enterprise,” said Josie Miranda Ph.D., Director of the SPRF Program.

Each fellow will receive two years of research funding. Alongside conducting essential research, they will be mentored by a senior researcher to help them prepare for a career in science.
