For leading research in DNA computing, which he is redefining by building the foundations of a new biomolecular computer, the applications of which will be most felt in nanotechnology, and also in physics by shedding new light on the formation of quasi-crystals and the controlled polymerization of biomolecules. Educationally, he is recognized for creating a first-of-its-kind course on synthetic and natural biomolecular computation, and for his highly distinguished teaching skills.
