For studying the mechanisms of nitric oxide autoxidation to understand the fundamental reactivity of HNO, in order to clarify specific activities of molecules in biology and contribute to identifying biological targets involved in smooth muscle relaxation, cell toxicity and neuronal responses. She initiated an outreach program to tenured faculty in the Arizona Community College system to do research in her laboratory. This experience integrates research topics into the curriculum and provides a contemporary basis for mentoring community college students, many of whom are from underrepresented groups, to continue their education at the university level. She mentors students from Arizona high schools and college freshman.
