Biography:

Carrie Black is a program officer in NSF's Astronomical Sciences Division and oversees operations of the National Solar Observatory and the Inouye Solar Telescope, as well as the solar astrophysics grants portfolio. Prior to joining AST in 2020, she was a program officer in the Geospace Section within the Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences Division. During her tenure in AGS, she managed Geospace Facilities and led NSF's participation in the National Science and Technology Council's Space Weather Operations, Research, and Mitigation Working Group. Black's background is in solar and plasma physics. She received her doctorate in physics (plasma kinetic theory) from the University of New Hampshire and completed two postdoctoral fellowships in solar physics, NSF's AGS postdoctoral research fellowship and a NASA postdoctoral fellowship.
