Biography

Tie Luo is the deputy assistant director of the NSF Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences. He has served in several roles spanning more than 20 years at NSF, including as the acting division director, deputy division director and program director of the NSF Division of Mathematical Sciences.

Luo received his doctorate in mathematics from Brandeis University. He has done extensive research in algebraic geometry and its application. From 1987 to 2004, he taught at the University of Utah, the Johns Hopkins University and The University of Texas at Arlington, where he became a full professor.
