TIP launches investment visualization and search capability
Pilot helps users find and see investments in key technology areas all across the nation
The U.S. National Science Foundation's Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (TIP) today announced a TIP Investments pilot, featuring a map and award data, to showcase the scale and impact of TIP's investments in key technology areas across the nation.
"We are thrilled to launch this pilot capability to allow the American public a new way of seeing the breadth and depth of TIP’s investments in key technology areas and their impacts on national, societal and geostrategic challenges," said Erwin Gianchandani, NSF assistant director for TIP. "We hope that the map and underlying data will help those interested in TIP's investments explore our work and assist researchers in finding others in their regions or focus areas."
The TIP Investments pilot uses Elsevier's Pure platform, a research information management system that leverages open access data repositories to show the organizations, including startups and small businesses, as well as the principal investigators who are advancing the TIP portfolio. The tool illustrates the impact of NSF's investments across all 10 key technology areas as outlined in the "CHIPS and Science Act of 2022." Data in the visualization is pulled from the public NSF award search and categorized into key technology areas with machine learning.
This pilot only shows awards managed by TIP programs since the enactment of the "CHIPS and Science Act of 2022" in August of that year. It does not include other NSF awards or supplemental funding from TIP to other NSF directorates or programs.
Through the TIP Investments pilot, users can access a comprehensive one-stop hub to find one another, facilitate partnerships, and build regional coalitions and innovation ecosystems. Over time, additional data and features will further showcase the impacts of TIP’s investments, evolving the pilot into a dynamic platform that helps unlock technologies, solutions, products and services rooted in the latest scientific and technological breakthroughs.
