About the series
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has launched a new solicitation and call for proposals for the Civic Innovation Challenge (CIVIC) program in partnership with the US Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Energy.
This 90-minute informational webinar will provide:
- An overview of the CIVIC program
- Details of the new solicitation and important submission information for potential proposers across academia, community organizations, and state and local government
- Q&A with CIVIC Program Directors
Program Description
CIVIC aims to accelerate the transition to practice of foundational research and emerging technologies into communities through civic-engaged research, while deepening cooperation and information sharing across sectors and regions. CIVIC projects should address community-challenges identified via tight collaboration between civic and academic partners, with the goal of achieving concrete impacts in the communities. The program is interested in ideas that go beyond the current state of practice and state-of-the-art, can be scaled and sustained within their pilot communities, and have potential for transfer across the US.
CIVIC is a two-stage competition:
- Stage 1 Planning Grants: 6-months at $75K per award. Deadline: May 1st, 2024
- Stage 2 Full Awards: 12-months at up to $1M per award. Only open to Stage 1 recipients from this round of the CIVIC competition.
This round of CIVIC is centered around the following two tracks:
- Track A: Climate and Environmental Instability - Building Resilient Communities through Co-Design, Adaption, and Mitigation
- Track B: Bridging the Gap between Essential Resources and Services & Community Needs.
