OAC Technical Talk: MS-CC - a Community-based Approach to Bridging the Digital Divide by Ana Hunsinger
ABSTRACT/SUMMARY:
The designations for historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), tribal colleges and universities (TCUs), and the broader community of minority-serving institutions (MSIs) have unique historical and cultural definitions. Despite being systemically underserved and under-resourced, these institutions continue to uplift their students and nurture leaders across academic disciplines.
The Minority Serving - Cyberinfrastructure Consortium (MS-CC) strives to enable shared capabilities, tools, assessments, and resources in support of cyberinfrastructure for the institutions that come together through the MS-CC. It is cultivating a vibrant community of practice across HBCUs, TCUs, and MSIs, where peers can collaborate and support one another, and build a coalition to advocate for their needs as a community.
Recently, the MS-CC in partnership with Internet2 received funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support this vision (NSF Award # 2137123 and NSF Award # 2234326).
This presentation will provide attendees an overview of how the MS-CC plans to affect change and make a difference in ensuring that students and faculty at HBCUs, TCUs, and other MSIs have access to advanced cyberinfrastructure capabilities through community and capacity building; workforce development; and research support and acceleration.
Bio:
Ana Hunsinger, Vice President, Community Engagement at Internet2, has executive management responsibilities for Internet2’s membership and engagement programs to support Internet2’s higher education, affiliates, and industry members. She also oversees research engagement and international engagement as well as community events and communications. Ana and her staff work closely with Internet2 staff in other areas to support programmatic goals and recurring proactive interaction with the Internet2 member community. As part of community engagement, Ana also leads efforts within Internet2 and the broader R&E community to increase diversity and inclusivity and more meaningful participation of women in IT.
Previously, Ana served as Director of Regional and State Network Relations and also managed FiberCo, a project funded by Internet2 for providing the means for acquiring, holding, and assigning fiber optic assets in support of the Internet2 community. At the beginning of her career at Internet2, Ana also was the program manager of Internet2’s international program and relationships. She has been active in the Internet2 community since 1998 and prior to joining Internet2, Ana worked at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Ana resides in Denver, Colorado. She has a BS in Computer Science and BAs in both Film Studies and Philosophy as well as a Master's Degree in Philosophy, all from the University of Kansas.
