About this event
Join the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the second of three symposia as we celebrate and share the work of researchers funded by the NSF Smart Health (SCH) program. This symposium will focus on showcase how advances in engineering analytics can help create tailored solutions to critical issues in biomedical research.
Featured Speakers

“The Digital Transformation of Diabetes Care Delivery: Insights From Practice and Future Challenges.”
Opening Remarks by Susan S. Margulies, Ph.D. Assistant Director, Directorate for Engineering, NSF
Technological advances, such as artificial intelligence and other advanced analytic models, are poised to make wide-spread changes in multiple sectors of American society. However, the integration of these advancements into health-related fields has been slow. Recognizing this critical gap, the SCH program, a collaboration between NSF and NIH, has been at the forefront since 2013, spearheading basic research initiatives. By harnessing the interdisciplinary prowess of computer science, engineering, mathematics, and the social and behavioral sciences, SCH has been instrumental in paving the way for transformative innovations in healthcare technology.
Increasingly, novel engineering and scientific approaches are providing health care teams with better data on disease progression and management, which in turn guides more effective treatment protocols. This seminar will showcase how advances in engineering analytics can help create targeted and tailored solutions to critical medical issues facing the American public, including problems as diverse as diabetes, viruses, and infertility.
