About the series
NSF Program Directors hosted an informational webinar on the Biofoundries program for the broad science and engineering community on June 15, 2023; 3-4 pm ET. The webinar will feature a brief presentation with details on the program, solicitation criteria, and deadlines followed by a Q&A session.
Slides from the webinar can be found below.
Background on the Biofoundries program
BioFoundries to Enable Access to Infrastructure and Resources for Advancing Modern Biology and Biotechnology (BioFoundries) calls for proposals to develop scientific ecosystems that democratize access to modern infrastructure, reagents, processes and knowledge bases; facilitate pathways to translation; and, simultaneously, engage in education and training efforts and conduct novel internal research. Together, these efforts will spur innovation that advances biotechnologies, biomanufacturing, and, eventually, the bioeconomy.
Biofoundries will help address societal challenges like feeding a growing population sustainably, mitigating climate change, monitoring and mitigating the impact of infectious diseases, and others. They will also help support the complex, interdisciplinary collaborations needed to advance research across the sciences and engineering.
Letters of Intent are required to be submitted by August 1, 2023.
Awards totaling $15,000,000 to $24,000,000 over a six-year period are anticipated.
