Synopsis
Information Privacy and Security (IPS) focuses on methods of evaluating, protecting, and enhancing privacy in computer-supported social systems where people share information about themselves, especially in dynamic and mobile situations. The IIS Division encourages studies of policies and technologies that permit collaboration across organization boundaries, studies of confidentiality protection so that one can draw conclusions from data while still maintaining the privacy of individuals, and the usability of such systems. Studies should explore new conceptualizations of privacy, for example, as the reciprocal of intimacy in online contexts. Proposals may focus on privacy algorithms, mechanisms, policies or the conduct of empirical studies, such as human perceptions of loss of privacy or incidents of identity theft. Projects focused on encryption algorithms and authentication protocols are not appropriate for this activity.
