German joins Office of Polar Programs as Director of Christchurch Operations

Retired Major General Anthony P. German has joined the Office of Polar Programs as Director of Christchurch Operations. General German will be supporting this season’s deployment activities for the U.S. Antarctic Program.

German has served as the Special Assistant to the Director, Air National Guard, the Pentagon, Washington D.C. Responsibilities include advising senior leadership on key issues and assisting the Director to organize and direct the Air National Guard throughout 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands.

General German was commissioned in 1983 through Officer Training School. He spent six years on active duty as a Navigator before joining the New York Air National Guard in 1989. General German has had numerous leadership assignments at the squadron, group, wing, and state level. He has commanded the 109th Airlift Wing, located in Scotia, N.Y, and later served as the Assistant Adjutant General and Commander of the New York Air National Guard. General German is a Master Navigator with over 4,900 hours of flying time. In addition, he has worked for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Reserve Affairs as the Department of Defense Liaison Officer to the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C. Prior to his current position, General German was The Adjutant General for the State of New York, Joint Force Headquarters, Latham, N.Y. He is a graduate of the United States Naval War College, Newport, R.I.
