OPP Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics section welcomes Mr. Joe Miller as Antarctic Facilities Manager

The Office of Polar Programs Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics section welcomes Mr. Joe Miller as Antarctic Facilities Manager. In this role, Mr. Miller has the overall responsibility for facilities and utilities maintenance and project oversight at all U.S. Antarctic Program locations.

Mr. Miller comes to the National Science Foundation from Georgetown University where he worked as the Assistant Director of Maintenance Planning in the Facilities Management department. He was responsible for the management of the University’s deferred maintenance program, which included facility condition assessments, prioritization of major maintenance and capital renewal needs, and project development. Prior to his position with Georgetown, Mr. Miller worked at Duke University as a maintenance manager where he assisted with the implementation of a new computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to provide better data capture for measuring maintenance effectiveness, improved the preventive maintenance program, and streamlined the maintenance materials purchasing and inventory management program. In 2020, he wintered over at McMurdo Station as the Facilities Engineer under the Antarctic Support Contract.

Mr. Miller has an M.S. and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and is a licensed professional engineer.
