The Office of Polar Programs (OPP) Arctic Sciences Section is excited to welcome Dr. Olivia Lee as a Program Director for the Arctic Observing Network (AON) program. Dr. Lee’s research focuses on marine and coastal ecosystem change in Arctic Alaska and includes the use of scenarios to support understanding future environmental and societal change. She currently supports building collaborations as a co-lead of the Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee (IARPC) Sea Ice Collaboration Team and the IARPC Diversity and Inclusion Working Group. Her interests in Arctic observing also involve collaborations with Alaska Native community members through the Sea Ice for Walrus Outlook and the Alaska Arctic Observatory and Knowledge Hub. Dr. Lee's expertise is especially relevant to the Arctic Sciences Section’s support of research on the natural, physical, and social systems in the Arctic and the interconnections of these systems.
Dr. Lee is an Assistant Professor in the International Arctic Research Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She received her Ph.D. in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from Texas A&M University in 2011. Dr. Lee was also a NOAA Knauss Sea Grant Fellow in NSF’s Ocean Sciences Directorate in 2011.
