Bo Li is a Stanley A. Sawyer Professor in the Department of Statistics and Data Science at Washington University in St. Louis. She received her doctorate in statistics from Texas A&M University in 2006 and then became a postdoc at the NSF National Center for Atmospheric Research. Li began her academic career at Purdue University in 2008 before moving to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in 2013. At UIUC, she served as a Marjorie Roberts Professor and chair of the department of statistics. In addition, she held appointments as a Richard and Margaret Romano Professorial Scholar, a research faculty scholar in the Office of Risk Management and Insurance and a Data Science Founder Professorial Scholar.
Li's research focuses on spatial and spatiotemporal statistics, particularly in environmental applications such as climatology, atmospheric sciences, public health, forestry and agriculture. Her work has earned her significant recognition from the American Statistical Association (ASA) Section on Statistics and the Environment, including the Young Investigator Award and the Distinguished Achievement Award. She is also a fellow of the ASA and was honored with the 2020 H.O. Hartley Award from Texas A&M University. Li has held many leadership roles within the statistical community, chairing various sections and committees. She currently serves on the NSF Advisory Committee for Environmental Research and Education.
