Lynda McGilvary is the Communications and Outreach Director for the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She has been the PI on a series of federally-funded projects since 2015, and currently leads NSF I-TEST and DRK-12 projects, and a NASA cooperative agreement. All three projects address the needs of Alaska Native students in rural areas. McGilvary was also the PI of the USDoED project: Learning through Cultural Connections: The Northern Lights, which laid the foundation for her current work with the Cultural Connections Process Model. She directed the film: Kiuġuyat: The Northern Lights for flat-screen and planetarium use. McGilvary's work for the Geophysical Institute allows her to channel current science into rural classrooms to help geoscientists achieve broader impacts for a breadth of their research grants.
