Division of Institution and Award Support (BFA/DIAS)

The U.S. National Science Foundation Division of Institution and Award Support (DIAS) provides expertise on NSF policies, systems and oversight to pave the way for research and innovation. 

The division's responsibilities include:

  • Developing, coordinating and issuing proposal and award policies and procedures. 
  • Providing pre-award and post-award oversight and business assistance. 
  • Administering NSF electronic award systems.

DIAS offices and branches

Policy Office

Develops, implements and issues proposal and award policy for NSF programs.

Cost Analysis and Pre-Award Branch

Ensures that awardee organizations can manage federal funds, and that budgeted amounts and/or expenditures comply with federal regulations and NSF guidance.

Resolution and Advanced Monitoring Branch

Ensures compliance with federal requirements for audit resolution and follow-up and post-award oversight.

Systems Office

Administers the agency's award management systems.
