The Computer and Information Science and Engineering Advisory Committee advises the U.S. National Science Foundation on support for research, education and infrastructure to facilitate policy deliberations, program development and program management, and to identify opportunities within the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE).
The committee advises the directorate on:
- The impact of the directorate's activities on the fields CISE supports.
- Program balance and other aspects of program performance.
- The impact of overall NSF policies on the CISE community.

Committee Charter
Computing for the Environment
The CISE community has much to offer to help tackle some of the greatest environmental challenges of our time. This document poses a set of recommendations for NSF and the CISE community to encourage and facilitate research that addresses critical environmental challenges.
CISE Vision 2030
Taking a long-term, decade-and-beyond perspective, this document looks to identify and understand key opportunities and challenges facing CISE and its community.
Private-Sector Partnerships
Over the last several years, NSF has gained experience with partnerships in multiple sectors, public and private. This document provides a community perspective on CISE’s current experience and direction in public-private partnerships.
Growing and Diversifying the Domestic Graduate Pipeline
The vitality of the pipeline of domestic students who pursue PhDs in computer science and related fields is an area of serious concern to the computing community. This document summarizes the issues of graduate enrollments and the diversity of the domestic graduate student population, as identified by an ad hoc sub-committee.
Harnessing the Computational and Social Sciences to Solve Critical Societal Problems
This document summarizes a joint roundtable hosted by CISE and the Directorate for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences. It underscores the deep interdependence of technological and social systems and explores ideas to improve collaborations between
academia and industry around data, science and society.
