About DUE

The U.S. National Science Foundation Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) strives to improve STEM education at the undergraduate level. The aim is to provide students with state-of-the-art instruction and hands-on experience, preparing them to become part of a highly skilled workforce for the future.

DUE supports programs that improve undergraduate learning by developing innovative curricula, fostering faculty development and promoting diversity and inclusion within STEM fields. By funding research and educational initiatives, DUE contributes to a more dynamic and effective learning environment for students nationwide.

What we support

DUE advances undergraduate STEM education by supporting initiatives that provide opportunities for students from all backgrounds and incorporate emerging technologies to enhance learning outcomes. The division promotes innovative teaching and learning approaches through funding for curriculum development and undergraduate research.

Core programs

DUE maintains three core programs that enhance undergraduate STEM education. These programs focus on fostering innovative teaching practices, improving student learning experiences and promoting broader participation in STEM fields.

Advanced Technological Education

Supports partnerships between two-year institutions of higher education, other academic institutions, industry and other entities to improve the education of technicians in science and engineering.

Improving Undergraduate STEM Education

Supports projects to improve STEM teaching and learning for undergraduate students, including studying what works and for whom and how to transform institutions to adopt successful practices in STEM education.

NSF Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Program

Supports institutions of higher education to fund scholarships for academically talented low-income students and to study and implement a program of activities that support their recruitment, retention and graduation in STEM.

Additional opportunities for the DUE community

DUE offers additional funding opportunities to foster innovative educational practices and enhance student learning experiences.

IUSE/Professional Formation of Engineers: Revolutionizing Engineering Departments

Supports fundamental changes to the training of undergraduate engineering students that equip them with the technical and professional skills needed to solve complex societal problems.

Pathways into the Earth, Ocean, Polar and Atmospheric & Geospace Sciences

Supports education, training and professional development of teachers, graduate, undergraduate and high school students in the geosciences through STEM learning ecosystems.

National STEM Education Distributed Learning (NSDL)
