EFMA's flexibility to target long-term challenges while retaining the agility to adapt as new challenges demand. Programs supported by the division include:
Emerging Frontiers in Research and Innovation program (EFRI)
Supports critical, strategic support of fundamental discovery at the frontiers of engineering research and education.
Research Experience and Mentoring (REM)
Supports hands-on research and ongoing mentorship in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields for high school students, STEM teachers, undergraduate STEM students, faculty and veterans.
Engineering Research Visioning Alliance (ERVA)
Supports bold engineering research directions that will benefit society and catalyze the engineering research community's pursuit of innovative, high-impact research.
Trailblazer Engineering Impact Award (TRAILBLAZER)
Supports individual engineers to conduct novel research projects that have the potential to address major societal challenges, advance U.S. leadership and/or catalyze the convergence of engineering and science domains.
