Join Virtual Webinar and Office Hours in June about NSF's New FORECAST Program

NEW NSF FORECAST PROGRAM WILL RECRUIT EMERGING CLIMATE AND ADAPTATION SCIENTISTS AND TRANSFORMERS INTO THE STEM WORKFORCE

Join NSF program directors from the Division of Research, Innovation, Synergies and Education (RISE) in the Directorate for Geosciences (GEO) in virtual discussions about the new Focus on Recruiting Emerging Climate and Adaptation Scientists and Transformers (FORECAST) program (NSF 24-558). Three separate outreach events (one virtual webinar and two office hours) will address this program, which will recruit emerging climate and adaptation scientists and transformers into the STEM workforce.

The FORECAST program seeks to facilitate transitions from status-quo graduate career preparation to student-centered models with an emphasis on building entrepreneurial and innovation capacity through intentional professional development activities. Focused on developing cohorts of innovative scholars from emerging research institutions (ERIs) and groups historically excluded in STEM, FORECAST should help develop STEM talent adept in community resilience and the translation of research outcomes for societal benefits.

Proposals in the FORECAST program will fall into three categories (Track 1, Track 2 and planning grants):

·       Track 1:  This award will support one coordination hub to coordinate support for rising seniors from ERIs or historically excluded and underserved groups as part of a national cohort to participate in structured professional development opportunities.

·       Track 2: These projects will support Master’s-degree-student cohorts at ERIs.

·       Planning Grants: These awards will build capacity at ERI institutions and with the appropriate partners to undertake the activities necessary to establish a future FORECAST track 2 cohort.

See more detailed information about the program goals in the full FORECAST solicitation (NSF 24-558).
