Dr. Sandra Cutts

Dr. Sandra Cutts has always been an advocate of social and environmental justice and, throughout her career, forged equitable solutions, focusing on community-based participatory engagement centering on the needs of marginalized populations. Her research focused on policy effectiveness, sustainable development, citizens' participation, hazardous waste, and renewable and alternative energy. Cutts, a former Sea Grant Knauss Policy Fellow, worked on environmental policy issues in the U.S. Senate and was a 2021-2022 Fulbright Scholar, where she continued environmental research and teaching at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. Cutts has a civil (environmental) engineering doctorate from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago, and both a master's in environmental planning/urban and regional studies and a bachelor's in mathematics from Alabama A&M University. She continues STEM outreach efforts to students from historically underrepresented communities.
