Dr. Adam DiBattista
AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow
Office of the Director
Class of 2024-2026

Dr. Adam DiBattista is an archaeologist who received his doctorate from the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology at UCLA. Before coming to the U.S. National Science Foundation, DiBattista served as a visiting researcher at the Institute of the Study of the Ancient World at New York University and at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens. His research examines how individuals in the ancient Greek world used objects made from the bodies of animals. In DiBattista's work, he synthesizes social theories about human-animal relationships with scientific analysis of objects made from bone, antler, and ivory. As a field archaeologist, DiBattista has worked at several sites across Turkey, Italy, and Greece, which has afforded him the opportunity to train and teach undergraduates. Passionate about making his research accessible, he recently published a guide on how to study archaeological objects made from bone, antler, and ivory that is intended for students and other nonexperts. As a fellow, DiBattista is excited to help NSF support scientific research infrastructure.
