Dr. Jackie Milingo is an astronomer with bachelor's degrees in physics and astronomy from the University of Kansas and a doctorate in astrophysics from the University of Oklahoma. She comes to the American Association for the Advancement of Science fellowship program from Gettysburg College, where she has been a faculty member in the physics department for over 20 years. As a member of the National Undergraduate Research Observatory, with support from the Pennsylvania Space Grant Consortium, Milingo has spent her career committed to providing transformative experiential learning opportunities for students. In addition, her contributions have focused on public education and outreach, removing barriers to participation in higher education and changing the conversation and learning spaces in physics, astronomy and STEM in general. As a science and technology policy fellow, Milingo is interested in serving at the interface of policy and practice that affects and connects STEM education and support to broader public interest and need.
