Dr. Sharmini Pitter Boghos

Dr. Sharmini Pitter Boghos served as the Assistant Director of the NOAA Center for Coastal and Marine Ecosystems (CCME) from 2017-2022, a NOAA Educational Partnership Program with Minority Serving Institutions Cooperative Science Center. Her work focused on providing coastal and marine ecosystem research training opportunities and scholarships to students from historically underrepresented communities.
Pitter earned her doctorate in Environmental Earth System Science with Archaeology at Stanford University. Her transdisciplinary research background includes geochemical studies of the link between changes in the paleoenvironment and cultural technology. Pitter was the Interim Director for the NSF Florida-Georgia Louis B. Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (FGLSAMP) and the NASEM Gulf Scholars Program at Florida A&M University during the 2022-2023 academic year.
Recently, Pitter served as a National Science Policy Network (NSPN) SciPol Scholar in the Fall 2021 Cohort and an NSPN Science Diplomacy Exchange and Learning (SciDEAL)/Swissnex (Boston) Fellow (Fall 2022).
