Dr. Jorge Lamboy-Gonzalez

Dr. Lamboy-Gonzalez is a biochemist with interests in clinical diagnostics, health care, education and increased participation of underrepresented groups in STEM: science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Jorge recently worked as lead scientist at a privately owned company, where he designed and developed in vitro diagnostic assays for clinical evaluation of allergic disorders, renal disease and anticonvulsant therapy. Previously, Jorge held a postdoctoral position at the University of California, San Diego, where he researched protein structure and dynamics at single-molecule resolution. Jorge received a Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine, where he dissected amino acid interactions of aggregation-prone proteins and enabled phage display access to unreachable protein targets. He received a B.S. from Universidad de Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras, where he contributed to the discovery of drug leads from marine natural products.

Dr. Lamboy-Gonzalez mentors university students in STEM programs to help navigate undergraduate life and prepare for their upcoming graduate or professional careers. He also dedicated many years to tutoring high school students from low-income and primarily Hispanic communities in chemistry, biology and Spanish for success in their college educations. Jorge frequently finds himself volunteering with organizations that pursue community empowerment, poverty amelioration, disaster relief and nature conservation. In his free time, Jorge enjoys hiking, camping, reading and cooking new recipes.
