The U.S. National Science Foundation Division of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences (BCS) supports research on the brain, human cognition, language, social behavior and culture, including research on the interactions between human societies and their environments. 

BCS funds projects through the following core programs:

  • Biological Anthropology.
  • Cognitive Neuroscience.
  • Cultural Anthropology.
  • Developmental Sciences.
  • Dynamic Language Infrastructure.
  • Human Networks and Data Science.
  • Human-Environment and Geographical Sciences.
  • Linguistics.
  • Perception, Action and Cognition.
  • Science of Learning and Augmented Intelligence.
  • Social Psychology.

The division reviews proposals to fund basic research, career development and conferences, as well as interdisciplinary initiatives.
