National Discovery Cloud for Climate

About

The National Discovery Cloud for Climate (NDC-C) initiative of the U.S. National Science Foundation enables access to advanced computing, data, software and networking resources in support of climate research and its applications to other research fields. NDC-C furthers NSF's commitment to equity by democratizing access to these research resources and their supporting services and end-user environments.

Through partnerships between the cyberinfrastructure and climate research communities, NDC-C is identifying and pursuing innovative opportunities for cyberinfrastructure development and operations. Examples include edge-to-high-performance computing (HPC) and advanced data discovery and data management capabilities. Innovations supported by NDC-C may in turn support other NSF initiatives, such as the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR)

NDC-C is not a standalone program with specific solicitations but rather a crosscutting initiative that supports and builds on existing NSF programs in the Computer and Information Science and Engineering, Geosciences and other directorates through co-funding. Specific opportunities will be announced through Dear Colleague Letters

Beyond investing in individual projects, NDC-C seeks to foster inter-project collaborations that would not otherwise occur, encouraging funded projects to align their outputs and activities for mutual benefit. Furthermore, the initiative looks to identify programwide governance and services that will enable collective impact.

For inquiries about NDC-C, please email ndcc-queries@nsf.gov
