The U.S. National Science Foundation Division of Ocean Sciences (OCE) invests in research, infrastructure and education on all aspects of the global ocean.
OCE supports research, education and facilities that enable scientific advances in:
- Biological oceanography, including population, community or ecosystem ecology or oceanography for marine and Great Lakes ecosystems.
- Physical oceanography, including the structure and movement of the ocean, how the ocean transports various materials, how the seafloor and other geologic features interact with marine life and chemistry and how the ocean interacts with the atmosphere, solid Earth and ice that surrounds it.
- Chemical oceanography, including the chemistry of the oceans and the role of the oceans in global geochemical cycles.
- Geological and geophysical processes in the ocean, including aspects of the geology and geophysics of the present ocean basins and margins, as well as those of the Great Lakes.
